Solar Storm and Tornadoes Slow Down Farmers
There has been a lot in the news lately about Nebraska and the weather: everything from floods to tornadoes! thankfully, we are all okay and so is Pepper! (oh and our buildings and equipment.) Many Nebraskans lost their homes. Then, a few days later, we experienced solar storms that cut out our tractors valuable GPS navigation technology. In this video, we assess the flooding we experienced (so thankful to finally get some rain!) and replant our fields. Thank you for watching today's video, and we'll see you in the next one! If you want to see the full news clips from the beginning of the video, I got them from these links below and use them under fair use.

So sorry you all got too much rain, all at once! Obviously a problem. How many rows will you re-plant, I will wish you and your neighbors the best, hope there is still some viable corn that comes up this year. California has had many disasters, fire that strips everything, and wipes out many homes, and some whole towns. Then come the rains, flash floods/mud slides that wipes-out homes, roads. Then sometimes there are earth quakes, O Joy! We didn't see any of the "Northern Lights" here in southern Ca. Goleta. Cloudy last 3 weeks. Rain did cause damage in some areas, not to much here this year. What can we-all do to help you? Bruce W

After watching the damage to your water damage to your rows, could you benefit from the attachment the Rocky Mountain Farmer uses for the potatoes. They have irrigation like you do. He uses a “dammer diker” to build pockets to hold water. Would this help you hold water and possibly prevent runoff?

How many people does it take to operate a one-row planter? Well with a four-wheeler for traction you mentioned that it takes three people. Growing up, and as late as the early 1980s I have seen one-row planters with horse traction being operated by a single person. Do you need GPS to plant straight rows? Nope! When you line up on one edge of the field, pick a landmark on the other end of the field that lines up with the center of the engine cover (hood | bonnet), keep that landmark aligned and you will have nice straight rows. The only technology you need is the good old mark 1 eye-balls. If you want straight rows, do not look back! Always look forward toward your alignment landmark.

Do you put underground tiles in low lying areas? In Iowa, this was common practice when I was on the farm. The goal being to accelerate drying out, but not stopping first day water accumulation.

Technology is great when it works, but how many industries would be shut down if all the technology was suddenly gone? Do we have enough people who still know how to do things the old fashion way? Farming could still be done, but it would be culture shock if we all had to go back to using some of the old methods. Could you imagine having to start over and plow with mules and work the way my grandparents and my dad had to work? They picked cotton by hand. I wouldn't want to have to do it.

Most certainly when we look upon the infirmaties that we may be facing that have come on us we must look out more broadly to see that which is still coming up green. That opportunity to be reminded of getting back to the basics of one row planting in this sixteen row world is a blessing to remember that even with all this technology, there is still a place for the simple things that our forefathers first deveoped to get us where we are today. God is good all the time; we just have to look broad enough to see it sometimes in the midst of those storms that rage around us. Continue in faith is always the answer.

I just subscribed to your channel on the day this video was released. And have been watching your video's as fast as i can which have made me laugh so hard at times. I grew up on a farrow to finish hog farm which my dad started in the early years of 1970's after beginning we finnally reached a standard operating capacity of 2600 -3200 head at all times. I started driving for the farm as i turned 16 in 1986 we had an old White Road Commander 2 cabover with no power steering which was difficult to say the least.
